麻豆影视 Alerts

Monday, May 11,  5:30 PM Update

We wanted to share a brief update regarding the ongoing Instructure (Canvas) cybersecurity incident.

Instructure has informed customers that it has engaged directly with the threat actor involved in the incident and received assurances that the data associated with the incident will not be further distributed or used to target individual institutions. While cybersecurity incidents can involve some level of uncertainty, this update may help address concerns about the potential public release of data.

麻豆影视 will continue coordinating with Instructure, the CCC Security Center, and our internal team as the broader investigation continues. Please remain alert for suspicious emails, phishing attempts, or unusual account activity, and report concerns to the ITS Help Desk.

Friday, May 8, 2:30 PM Update

Canvas access for 麻豆影视 users was re-enabled at approximately 1:30 PM today.

At this time, some users may still experience login or access issues while account access changes continue to synchronize across our authentication systems. Due to the high volume of accounts involved, this synchronization process may take some time to fully complete for all users.

If you are unable to access Canvas immediately, please allow some time and try again later.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to fully restore access for all users.

Friday, May 8, Noon Update

The Chancellor鈥檚 Office has provided guidance that it is reasonable for Districts to cautiously and securely re-enable SSO access to Canvas. Based on a review of all information, 麻豆影视 will restore access by 1:30 p.m. today.

At that time:

  • Canvas will be available for faculty, students, and the college to use
  • There is no additional action required from users at this time
  • Please continue to remain alert for suspicious emails, phishing attempts, or unusual account activity related to Canvas

While access is being restored shortly, the broader investigation into the incident remains ongoing. 麻豆影视 will continue coordinating with Instructure and statewide cybersecurity partners to monitor the situation and assess any potential impact.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we worked through this rapidly evolving situation.

Friday, May 8, 8 AM

While Instructure has begun to restore service to Canvas, at the recommendation of the CCC Security Center, 麻豆影视 continues to restrict access to the platform and will be working closely with Instructure and the CCC Security Center until Canvas is confirmed to be safe and secure for use.

Please do not attempt to access or log in to Canvas until it is determined that it is safe to resume use of the platform, as we continue to prioritize the protection of student and employee data.

While the ITS Help Desk remains available, we encourage you to continue monitoring miracosta.edu/alerts for the latest updates.

麻豆影视 will continue to monitor the situation closely. While we do not yet have a clear timeline for full resolution, our next communication will be shared on Friday, May 8, at 12 p.m. (noon).

What we know:

  • On April 29, 2026, unauthorized activity was detected within Canvas, and immediate access was revoked. An investigation was initiated, and independent forensic experts were engaged.
  • On May 7, 2026, additional unauthorized activity related to the same incident was identified. The unauthorized actor modified certain pages visible to some students and faculty within Canvas. In response, Instructure acted quickly to contain the issue by placing the system into maintenance mode while we investigated and implemented additional safeguards.
  • Instructure is working in coordination with forensic partners and found no evidence that the unauthorized actor established persistent access, obtained account credentials within our institution, or exfiltrated additional data.

Next steps:

  • Final confirmation from the CCC Security Center that the system is fully secure
  • Additional details on the scope and impact of the incident
  • Legal guidance

麻豆影视 remains in close contact with the CCC Security Center, legal council and other college partners to ensure that we fully understand the scope and impact of the incident. We are maintaining restrictions to Canvas access out of an abundance of caution.

What we are doing:

  • Continuing to monitor activity closely
  • Coordinating with Instructure and cybersecurity partners
  • Maintaining restrictions on access out of caution

Resources:

Friday, May 8, 5:30 AM

麻豆影视 has observed that the Canvas maintenance page has been removed. However, out of an abundance of caution, we will continue to restrict access and actively work with Instructure until Canvas is deemed safe and secure for use.

It has come to our attention that the cybersecurity event involving Instructure Canvas has escalated.

At this time, we are asking all faculty and students to please take the following actions immediately:

  • Fully exit Canvas if you are currently signed in by closing your browser
  • Do not access or attempt to log back into Canvas until ITS provides further guidance
  • Remain alert for suspicious emails, phishing attempts, or unusual account activity

We understand this is disruptive and appreciate your cooperation while we work to protect college systems and data. Additional updates will be provided as soon as more information is available.

Dear 麻豆影视 Community,

We are aware of recent reports this week regarding a cybersecurity incident affecting Instructure, the owner of the Canvas learning management system used by MiraCosta College.

We are also aware of other cybersecurity-related disruptions reported at institutions across the state this weekend. At this time, there is no indication that those events are connected to the Instructure incident.

Instructure has confirmed that 麻豆影视 is among the institutions impacted by this incident. We are actively working with Instructure and the California Community Colleges Security Center to better understand the scope of the incident and assess the potential impact on our college.

At this time:

  • Instructure reports that the incident has been contained, and Canvas remains operational for faculty, students, and college use.  For more information, please refer to the Instructure Status Page:
  • No action is required from faculty, staff, or students at this time.
  • Please remain alert for any unusual or suspicious communications, including phishing emails.

We will continue to monitor this situation closely and will provide updates as more information becomes available. As we receive confirmed information, we will update the  page.

If you have questions or notice anything unusual, please contact the ITS Help Desk.

In appreciation,

Public Information Office
