Equivalency Committee

Mission

The Equivalency Committee's mission is to ensure that faculty members hired by the District, who do not directly meet minimum qualifications as stated in the possess qualifications that are at least equivalent to the applicable minimum qualifications as per Education Code 搂87359.

Functions

  1. Review Equivalency Requests and Make Recommendations
    Evaluate faculty equivalency applications submitted by candidates in accordance with the Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators in California Community Colleges, 19th Edition and local policy.
    Formulate recommendations to the Academic Senate regarding approval or non鈥慳pproval of each request.
  2. Evaluate Comparable Degree Requests
    Review requests from department chairs seeking recognition of comparable degrees for discipline minimum qualifications. Provide recommendations to the Academic Senate on whether each request should be approved or not approved.
  3. Coordinate with Human Resources on Process and Interpretation
    Collaborate with Human Resources to ensure applicants, department chairs, and hiring committees receive clear guidance on the equivalency and comparable degree process. Respond to questions regarding required documentation, interpretation of MQ standards, and procedural steps.
  4. Recommend Policy Revisions
    Identify areas where AP 7211.2 (Minimum Qualifications and Equivalencies) may require updates to maintain alignment with statewide MQ standards, legal guidance, and best practices. Submit recommended revisions to the Academic Senate for review and action.
  5. Maintain and Improve Guidance Materials
    Review and recommend updates to the Instructions for Faculty Equivalency Requests to ensure they remain clear, accessible, and consistent with the 19th Edition MQs, CCCCO guidelines, and local academic and HR processes.
