Voting is one way to make your voice heard. Whether you are voting for the first time or have voted before, these resources can help you register, check your voter status, understand your voting options, and make a plan for Election Day.
Important Dates
Mark these key dates for the November 3, 2026 Gubernatorial General Election.
September 24
San Diego County voter information pamphlets begin mailing to registered voters.
October 5
Vote-by-mail ballots begin mailing. Early voting also begins at the San Diego County Registrar of Voters office.
October 6
Official ballot drop boxes open throughout San Diego County.
October 19
Voter registration deadline for the November 3 Gubernatorial General Election.
October 20
Conditional, or Same Day, Voter Registration begins for eligible voters who missed the registration deadline.
October 24
Select Vote Centers begin opening daily for early in-person voting from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
October 31
All Vote Centers begin opening daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through November 2. On Election Day, November 3, hours change to 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
November 3
Election Day. Vote Centers and official ballot drop boxes are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Three Ways to Vote
Vote by Mail
Every active registered voter in San Diego County will receive a ballot by mail beginning the week of October 5. Complete your ballot, sign and date the return envelope, seal it, and return it promptly.
Ballots returned by mail must be postmarked on or before November 3 and received by the county elections office no later than November 10.
Voters are encouraged to return their ballot as soon as possible. California recommends mailing vote-by-mail ballots at least seven days before Election Day to help ensure they receive a timely postmark.
Use a Ballot Drop Box
Beginning October 6, voters can return completed ballots at official ballot drop boxes throughout San Diego County.
Ballots must be deposited by 8 p.m. on Election Day, November 3.
Vote in Person
Select Vote Centers begin opening October 24. Beginning October 31, all Vote Centers are open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through November 2.
On Election Day, November 3, all Vote Centers are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Eligible voters may vote in person at any Vote Center in San Diego County.

The voter registration deadline is October 19, 2026. If you miss the deadline, Conditional Voter Registration is available beginning October 20 through Election Day.
