Step by Step guidance for becoming a CalWORKs student
Step 1 - Complete a Â鶹ӰÊÓ CalWORKs Program Intake Form
.
Once we receive your form, we will review it to determine your eligibility for the Â鶹ӰÊÓ CalWORKs Program. If you are eligible, we will contact you to schedule an appointment with a CalWORKs Counselor.

Step 2 - Meet with Your CalWORKs Counselor – Freddy Ramirez
During your counseling appointment, you will complete the following:
- A Comprehensive Student Education Plan (CSEP)
- Your counselor will discuss your educational and career goals.
- Together, you'll create a semester-by-semester education plan outlining the courses needed to reach your goal.
- Your education plan is also important for graduation requirements and financial aid eligibility.
- An Individual Training Plan (ITP)
- If you are registered for classes, your counselor will complete your ITP and Materials Request Form.
- These forms will be emailed to your county case manager.
- The ITP helps develop your Welfare-to-Work plan and determines your eligibility for county supportive services.
Step 3 - Attend the Mandatory CalWORKs Orientation
All new CalWORKs students are required to attend a group orientation at the beginning of the semester.
During orientation, you will:
- Learn about CalWORKs program requirements and student responsibilities.
- Review the support services and resources available to you at Â鶹ӰÊÓ.
- Meet other CalWORKs students.
- Have an opportunity to ask questions and connect with program staff.
Once you've completed these three steps, you'll officially be participating in the Â鶹ӰÊÓ CalWORKs Program and will have access to the services and support available to help you succeed.
